The future is
set in stone
Cast in Carbon.

Imagine being able to pour plants into any shape, form, or texture. It doesn’t combust. It doesn’t rot. It’s ultra lightweight, but super strong.

Now we can.

We believe in a future where natural, non-toxic materials are accessible to all.

Cast Carbon combines biochar (pyrolyzed biomass) with natural clay, fibers, and binding minerals.

It’s a clean, biodegradable material that contains no petrochemicals, Ordinary Portland Cement, glues, asbestos, resins, or crystalline silica.

When used to make building materials, Cast Carbon turns cities into forests and homes into trees by sequestering carbon, ameliorating climate and benignly biodegrading at end of service life.

The way we build our world is the key to a cleaner future.

We’re disrupting the building materials industry and building a better future.

Cast Carbon incorporates biochar, which is a pseudo-charcoal produced by kilning biomass in a low temperature, low oxygen environment. This process is called pyrolysis, and it creates a rich, stabilized form of carbon while producing renewable fuel and other valuable co-products.

We are obsessed with using biochar as a building material because it’s:

  • Lightweight

  • Insulative

  • Energy-positive

  • Termite repellent

  • Non-combustible

  • Sound dampening

  • Non-supportive to mold growth

What does the future of building look like for you?

While we are currently in pre-commercialized development, these are the ways we envision products made with Cast Carbon helping you.

  • Primary benefit: can upgrade both old and new projects

    • Achieve excellent fire ratings simultaneous to low embodied carbon credits

    • Protect your investments against termites

    • Retrofit and upgrade buildings struggling to compete

    • Can build with minimized foundations and resource-conscious light construction because it is lightweight

    • Earn healthy building ratings + gain a competitive advantage when marketing a project

    • Sound dampening for multi-family projects

  • Primary benefit: Carbon Negativity

    • Decarbonize your portfolio (risk mitigation)

    • Upgrade older infrastructure

    • Meet UN Sustainable Development Goals

    • Achieve high fire ratings while qualifying for carbon tax breaks

    • Biochar agricultural feedstocks can rise with population rather than face depletion

    • E-commerce & shipping advantages because it is lightweight

    • 3D printing potential

    • Off-planet application potential

    • Natural yet standardized ingredients

    • Global, decentralized ingredient potential

  • Primary benefit: Ratings (healthy building + carbon ratings)

    • Unmatched carbon sequestration

    • Be part of the genesis of a new healthy material

    • New design possibilities with “cast-able wood”

    • Extreme circularity

    • The promotion of occupant health - 100% non-toxic

    • Is lightweight

    • Can protect other low embodied carbon materials, like wood, from fire

    • Insulative

    • Protect your soundscape: acoustic dampening

    • Save on a building’s operational energy as well as embodied carbon when specifying Cast Carbon

  • Primary benefit: Healthy

    • Avoid toxic building materials

    • Lightweight + ergonomic to handle

    • Zero learning curve: 1:1 substitutable with incumbent products

    • Standardization + quality control (difficult with natural products)

    • Termite repellent

    • Reduce call backs from termite, mold, or moisture damage

    • Zero waste

  • Primary benefit: Biophilia

    • Clean + healthy

    • High performance (fire, moisture, termites)

    • Be part of the solution

    • Enjoy biochar-enhanced air filtration

    • Increase home value and insurance savings

    • Sound dampening

    • Aesthetics

    • Passivhaus

    • Mold mitigation

    • Paintable for complete color freedom

    • Protect your home while building a better future
